Comment on Quiet Hour.....

A few months ago our unit instituted (that means started) quiet hour, from 4-5pm every day. This is in an attempt to help the babies by having a quiet period where they won't be disturbed by loud noises, loud nurses, doctors, etc. Basically we pull the shades and curtains, turn down the lights and be quiet. Quiet hour is a day shift thing, we don't have quiet hour on nights. Every night is quiet hour. Or at least every night we turn down the lights.

It has been predicted that quiet hour would not bode so well for me.

During quiet hour there are a few things that the quiet hour team has suggested we do:
Take a break
Take a walk
Look out the window
Update your blog
Take a nap
Countdown the 60 minutes that you're supposed to be quiet as it goes by slowly second by second

This is what I have done:
Tasted Pat's homemade german chocolate cake
Laughed loudly until I remembered it was quiet hour
Talked with Stacey *softly* by the formula bar
Talked with my roommates
Talked to the clerks
Talked to the cardiologist (my favorite specialty!)
And updated my blog

A few weeks ago they were giving out chocolate if you were quiet during quiet hour.

So I ask--do I get chocolate?

Comment on my new BFF

So I have always referred to myself as One Who Loves To Read. I remember my mom taking us to various libaries wherever we've lived and I would always get huge stacks of books, run home and read them as fast as I could. More than once I remember my mom saying that I'd read them faster than we could get back to the library. I could spend hours on end in the library. It's so peaceful. It was like a church to me.

Unfortunately I got out of the habit of going to the city library when I was in nursing school. I spent lots of time at ISU's library studying, but that's not fun reading. And then I moved down here and I was spending way too much time reading the Twilight series to concentrate on anything else.

But this is the dawn of a new year, and today is a new day and all that jazz, and I finally went and got a library card at the Draper library. It was like getting reaquainted with an old friend that I haven't seen for a really long time. I now have 5 books (the max I could get my first visit) checked out that I'm just itching to read (see pic above). I have 9 books on hold (that's all they'd let me do-sad!), and 21 books on my list of what I want to read. I finally had to stop searching books so that I could give my eyes a rest. I may need to get back to wearing glasses. I am so glad to be back in a library and to be able to have this whole wealth of new books to read. By the way if you noticed that I have 'the other Boleyn girl' on my stack of books, and if you remember me swearing to never read it, my blog-stalker told me that it's actually really good and intriguing and non-creepy so I'm all over it. And if any of you readers out there have some books to recommend I welcome the recommendations! (I just don't like books with lots of swearing.)

Yea Books! Yea Libraries! Yea for days off to read!
